Our History
Renaissance Community Development Credit Union is a not-for-profit
financial cooperative owned by its members. Renaissance CDCU was
the second State chartered Credit Union in New Jersey. The Credit
Union was chartered in 1996 as an extension of the First Baptist
Community Development Corporation. Renaissance Community Development
Credit Union is based on a "Common Bond," we serve several
segments of the community: those who live, work, worship or attend
school within the Renaissance Target Area. This area covers parts
of Franklin Township and New Brunswick.
In
June 2001 the U.S. Treasury Department certified Renaissance CDCU
as a Community Development Financial Institution.
What is a Credit Union?
While other financial institutions need to generate profits in order
to satisfy stockholders, Credit Unions are different. Credit union
members pool their savings to make loans to each other. Credit Unions
return excess earnings to its members in the form of dividends,
low interest rates on loans and little or no fees for financial
products and services.
